DARK ROAST HONDURAS GUAMA DANTA ORGANIC
$11.00 – $21.00
Flavor notes: milk chocolate, caramel, orange, red apple
Guama Danta is surrounded by hills and pine forests, high in the mountains with red, clay soil. This region has the highest productivity of all 15 coffee producing departments of Honduras. It is a longtime farming community, with farms in almost every possible microclimate, making for nuanced, complex cups. This lot came from various smallholders in the region, many of which rely on horses to navigate pitted dirt roads and take coffee cherries to the de-pulper.
Honduras is a small Central American country with its share of problems. The World Bank estimates that in rural areas, 20% of Hondurans earn less than $1.90 per day. Country-wide, roads are suboptimal; many coffee farms in Honduras are accessible only via dirt roads that snake up along mountainsides. Despite these factors, entrepreneurial producers are working toward higher quality, experimenting with new processing techniques and growing high-profile varietals. The objective: kick down the door of the specialty coffee market, build a reputation as a specialty coffee origin and earn the money that comes with it. Your purchase is making this happen!
Angel Ramos began planting coffee 20 years ago using a hectare of land he bought from his mother. His parents and grandparents taught him how to work a coffee field. Angel began selling coffee to our importer’s sister company during crop 2014–2015. Since that time he has seen his profits increase. He now owns six hectares of land and is planning to purchase two more. He’s a contributing producer to this beautiful lot of beans!
In the cup, enjoy rich body, mild acidity and a rainbow of chocolaty, fruity and sweet tasting notes.
