KENYA TAMU
$10.00 – $19.00
Flavor notes: dark chocolate, citrus, maple syrup, caramel
In Swahili the word “Tamu” means “sweet.” With its sweet, syrupy notes and rich mouthfeel this coffee is appropriately named. It comes from a number of smallholder farmers in the Mt. Kenya region, each of who farm about 150 coffee trees. Mount Kenya is the tallest mountain in Kenya, and the second tallest in Africa, after Kilimanjaro.
The farmers here deliver their just-picked red cherry to cooperative wet mills, which disc pulp, ferment, wash and then sundry the coffee on elevated drying tables.
This lot was the result of our importer’s lab at Taylor Winch (their sister company in Kenya) meticulously blending coffees from estates and coops across Mt Kenya. We love the result: a balanced cup with heavy body, bright acidity and rich tasting notes of dark chocolate, maple syrup, citrus, black currant and caramel.
