UGANDA RWENZORI
$10.00 – $19.00
Flavor notes: black tea, honey, lemon & lime
This coffee is rich in flavor…and rich in care and effort that went into bringing it from the seed to your cup.
These beans were wet-processed at the Kisinga Washing Station after being grown high in the Rwenzori Mountains and hand-picked by the Bukonzo Farmer’s Group. This group is comprised of members of the Bakonzo tribe. Farms tend to be small averaging only about 2 hectares (a little less than 5 acres). The work on these farms is generally done by hand. Farmers work together to process and market their coffee, an approach known as “share farming”. Working as a united group has helped to improve processing and increase quality control.
The Rwenzori Mountain Range (famously known as the Mountains of the Moon) stretch 120km along Western Uganda bordering the Democratic Republic of Congo. The magnificent snow-capped peaks and the glaciers produce many rivers. The high altitude, fertile soils and plentiful rainfall provide perfect conditions for growing Arabica coffee. Accessing these farms with a car or truck is next to impossible. So, a fleet of donkeys was used to help farmers transport ripe cherries from their remote farms to the washing stations.
Expect a balanced cup with a crisp, citrus acidity, tea-like body, and honey sweetness–a superb African coffee! We hope you enjoy it as much as we do. Your purchase shows appreciation to all who worked to make it so delicious, and helps these small farmers support their families and continue producing excellent quality coffee!
